About company:
Vospers… The story so far.
The Company commenced trading as a motor business in Plymouth during 1946. The present Chairman’s father founded the business and he was joined by his own father after incorporation in 1951. Over the years the Company became franchise holders for AC, Fiat, Volkswagen, Jaguar and Simca and then was appointed a Ford Retail Dealer in 1957. Vospers entered into the daily rental and contract hire business through their associated company, Vospers Rentacar Ltd in the 1950’s.

In 1960 Vospers were appointed Ford Main Dealers and moved to their site in Millbay Road. Subsequently the Company was appointed a Truck Specialist Dealer for Ford trucks and vans in 1966.

Peter Vosper joined his father in the business in 1966 and assisted in the development of the Company to the status of sole Ford Main Dealer in Plymouth in 1970. Following the sudden death of his father, Peter Vosper became Managing Director in 1974. Further expansion followed over the next five years into other activities such as Motorcycles, Marine and a Vehicle Body Building operation. 1979 saw the building of a new truck facility and then in 1980 the creation of a specialist Used Car business, Ferryport Motors.

A major acquisition in 1986 secured Ford representation for Vospers in both Truro and Penzance. The 90’s saw further growth of the Company with the acquisition of premises in Redruth/Camborne — Vospers of Pool and, in early 1995, the Ford Main Dealership in Falmouth. This exceptional period of expansion culminated in the opening of the prestigious new state of the art premises at Marsh Mills in 1995 in Plymouth. The building reflected the Company’s intention to ensure customers and staff have equipment and premises fully capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century. During 1996, in line with its commitment to customer satisfaction, premises at Millbay Road were completely refurbished. This provided a valuable service to drivers in the Plymouth City Centre.

Since 1996 Vospers has also acquired St Austell and Liskeard from Cornish Ford, Chaddlewood Garages in Plympton and opened a Ford authorised repairer in Tavistock. The Company has continued its expansion programme with a brand new Dealership at Treliske in Truro. Developments also included a new Accident Repair

  1. I have been using Vospers Ford for many years now and each year I forget at how woeful their service is. I booked my car in for a Service & MOT explaining I need it back to be able to collect my children from school. I arrived at the Ford Service area and the automatic doors won’t open so I stand there like a lemon for 5-10 minutes. Eventually I walk all the way around the building and go in the other side. I explain this to the lady who had been looking straight at me for 5 minutes who said oh yea, that was my job to let you in, I was on the phone. I reiterate that I need the car back by 2pm and am told no problem. To speed the process up I authorise any work that may need doing. But I get a call at 10:45 saying I need 2 new tyres. No problem I say. See you at 2. Upon collecting the car at 2, I’m told no, sorry car not ready. At least an hour and a half. MOT not done blah blah blah. If I had been told at 10:45 this would hold things up, fair enough, but no mention. I have this or similar problems every single year for the past 8 years. With my 2 cars and my mums which I look after for her, we spent thousands on this shocking service. We were about to buy two new cars next month, a Ford Mustang and a new 4×4. Not a hope now. No one cares about customer service there. There will be a few pennies allowed off the bill as always from a faceless manager, but the damage is done!! Avoid Vospers at all cost!!!!

  2. Reading these reviews i was rather surprised. we own a 2006 car and one of our family pulled the airbag compartment under the driving wheel loose. We were concerned about safety and took the car to the Truro depot. Even though we had not purchasethe car from them they took the trouble to look at the problem, gave us the relevsnt advice and did not charge for it. We have no complaints at al

  3. Staff training needed on customer service says:

First receptionist put me through to bodyshop repairs, where eventually this was answered by a young lady, she was obviously busy doing something else at the time as the call kept going out of range, she then tried putting me back to front desk but I was quicker hanging up and redialling. Second receptionist (mature lady) cut me off mid sentence and put me through to another department in which I held for 4 minutes, unhelpful and rude staff at their front of desk/reception, where were Vospers customer service? Leaves a lot to be desired. However, on that note, I have gone elsewhere. In the 20 years I have lived here both my husband and I have purchased 5 cars, never again. This company need to get their staff training schedule in order. The last car I purchased was supposed to come with a full tank of petrol, promises made by the gent who sold the car back in April, however, I had to fill up at the nearest garage, I never bothered too much about this broken promise at the time, but after having witnessed first hand their customer service, I think its time to move on. Goodbye Vospers, take a leaf out of my page and get your staff trained on customer service. There are some fantastic companies out there that will come in and do this for you. Oh and you might want to identify the riff raff and send them packing.
